Installing GhostDoc for Visual Studio

Depending on the version of the Visual Studio you use, you should use one of the two ways to install GhostDoc - MSI-based setup and VSIX-base extension installer.

Visual Studio 2019

You must use the VSIX version of the installer with the VS2019 or install it from the Marketplace (when available). While it is still possible to use the MSI/EXE based GhostDoc setup with the VS2019, we recommend the VSIX route, unless you need to have the GhostDoc Enterprise command-line tools installed in Program Files.
Note: The MSI/EXE deployed solution will only safely work with the VS2019 when you only have one instance of the VS2019 installed on the computer.

Visual Studio 2017

You must use the VSIX version of the installer with the VS2017 or install it from the Marketplace (when available). While it is still possible to use the MSI/EXE based GhostDoc setup with the VS2017, we recommend the VSIX route, unless you need to have the GhostDoc Enterprise command-line tools installed in Program Files.
Note: The MSI/EXE deployed solution will only safely work with the VS2017 when you only have one instance of the VS2017 installed on the computer.
