VS 2019 Tools or Extensions menu?
Question asked by Neal Culiner - 3/26/2019 at 11:01 AM

Just installed the beta for VS 2019 of GhostDoc Pro, expected to find the menu under Extensions but see it's under Tools. I'm not an extension developer so I don't know Microsoft's guidance but what I've seen in other products I use everything seems to be going under Extensions which is wonderful. It's hard trying to figure out where different extensions landed in VS and maybe Microsoft has finally put out guidance to extension developers to put under the Extensions menu?

Hi Neal,

Yes, in VS2019 all top-level plugin menus are moved into the new Extensions menu. This is done by Visual Studio automatically in an effort to make the top level horizontal menu manageably small. There are no "guidelines" per se, at this time.

Historically, GhostDoc's menu is located under the top level Tools and that's where all users know to find it. VS is not moving it since it is not the top level item.

We are considering the new Extensions menu but we would only do that after an extensive user survey and if the vast majority of GhostDoc users is favorable to the change.

Thanks!

Hello. I've been using GhostDoc for years and I much prefer how VS 2019 is making extensions more discoverable. My vote is to put it in the Extensions menu. That's where I expect to find it, it's a great solution by Microsoft in finding where extensions are rooted.

Can we get additional commands on the toolbar for all of the Document This actions?

Stephen,

We are making GhostDoc v2019 RTM available later today.

If you come back tomorrow you'll save installing the Beta and then updating to the RTM build

Thanks!

We found a show stopper issue with the Enterprise edition of GhostDoc v2019 and have to push the release to tomorrow. Sorry about that.
